Story proofing guide. First, read the Story Formatting guide, so you know what the output has to look like. Those first three lines are very important, they control how the menu will present the story. Second, read the Writing Guide. That tells you about spelling, grammar and punctuation. If the author is mis-spelling on purpose, for effect, that's fine. And don't try to change their writing style. But accidentally mis-spelled words, doubled words (the the for example) and the worst excesses of punctuation abuse should be corrected. Most authors use US spelling, but if someone wants to use Australian, British, or Canadian, that's fine. It also tells you about what I won't accept on the site. Sometimes a story can be converted from unaccceptable to acceptable by changing the words "15 year old" to "teenager". Mechanics FTP connect to diana.announce.com as user "lblibrary" with password "fredaplen". Download a story or stories that you're going to work on, and rename it from storyname.txt to storyname.abc (use your initials instead of .abc). That tells the other people doing the same thing, that you've checked the story out for proofing, so they don't proof the same story. When you've got it all nice and lovely, upload it back to the same place, into the "pub" directory. Once per hour, Sandra the Valkyrie will look at what's there, and make index.htm, using those first three lines in the file, and the story will be available on the web site. You can check out how it looks, and if it looks wrong, you can try again. When it's all done, delete the story from where you downloaded it, so it's only in place in the "pub" directory. She does this at 23 minutes past the hour, every hour. Any stories you're doubtful about, on grounds of suitability, put in the "unsure" directory, I'll make a decision about them. Any that you find you can't convert (weird format), just rename it back to .txt and try another one. Eventually, either someone will be able to read it, or no-one will.
