Age and experience prevailed among the lightweights at the 2001 Natural Eastern Classic. Lauren Epidy was clearly in better shape than many of the younger competitors, whom I will show you photos of in future updates, and won both the masters class and the open division of the lightweights.

I was also impressed with Lauren’s artistic style of posing. Although some of her poses simply displayed raw muscularity (e.g., Laure002.jpg), which is to be expected at a physique contest, in many instances she assumed a less aggressive aspect (e.g., Laure017.jpg). Many bodybuilding fans like to see hard muscles, of course, and so do I. However, stylish posing can also be appealing, and it gives the competitors a rare opportunity to express their individual personalities. In the Laure003.jpg photo, Lauren strikes an elegant double biceps pose that also provides a view of her abdominal and intercostal muscles as well as a profile of her legs. She gracefully balances a traditional display of muscularity with unique posturing that is a refreshing change from the boring monotony of the standardized poses that are normally seen at most physique shows.

Lauren may not be a mountain of muscle, like Tatianna Butler, but perhaps you’ll like her better than you did the figure contestants.
